Sarah Crilly pulled from crowd to play for Scotland and scores!
Sarah Crilly, a 20-year-old Scottish football fan, couldn’t believe her luck when not only was she plucked out of the crowd and handed a kit and pair of boots, but also scored an equaliser for Scotland Ladies against Norway.
The youngster went to watch her heroes in an international friendly, completely unaware that she’d be gracing the pitch before the full-time whistle.
With one midfielder hobbling off during the warm-up and another going off in the first half, their squad was suddenly looking quite threadbare.
Sarah, who plays for Hamilton Ladies and had been helping out at the national team’s training session the previous day, was queuing for a half-time hot drink with friends, when she was approached by one of the team officials to sit on the bench.
‘I was standing with all my friends waiting on a cup of tea when the team administrator came up and asked if I had my boots with me. I didn't,’ Sarah said.
‘So she took me to the changing rooms, and got me kitted out.’
The only spare kit was several sizes too big for her – including boots two sizes above her usual size three.
The Scotland side saw their injury worries increase as the game progressed and Sarah was brought on with 28 minutes left., which in itself wouldn’t be considered a bad day, but she capped it off by scoring a late equaliser.
She tweeted: ‘What a day! Called from the stand to play for the A squad and scored the equaliser with size 5 boots on!!’
‘I was there for a day out with my pals — next thing I know I'm stepping on the park. It was crazy, she added.
‘I couldn't believe it when I scored. It was incredible.’
