Super 20s were in action over the past few days as they head for the championship stage of the season.
Thursday evening saw the first match of the weekend, when Laredo Heat took a cracking 5-3 victory over RGV Grandes, whisking them into pole position for one of the playoff spots come the end of the season.
Friday saw American Eagles earn only their second victory of the campaign when they overcame FC Dallas West Texas by one goal to nil to lift themselves from bottom spot and mathematically they can still qualify for the finals in Florida in July chances are looking slim for them.
Alamo SC San Antonio done themselves no harm of qualifying in first place after defeating Club Halcones USA on Friday nigh,t which subjected the Roma side to their sixth defeat in six games. Alamo, having played all their matches, must now wait on the outcome of Laredo Heat v RGV Grandes final league match on June 30th to see if they will remain in top spot or if Laredo will snatch it at the last moment.
Big winners of the weekend were Texas Football Club who started off second bottom of Group B but after two victories, find themselves in top spot.
A 3-0 victory over the Dutch Lions on Saturday and a 3-1 win over Austin Aztex on Sunday, saw the McKinney side leapfrog both these teams and the America Eagles into first place.
Group B certainly seems the tougher of both groups and after Corpus Christi bailed after only two matches early in the season in group A, it left three strong sides in Laredo Heat, Alamo and RGV to fight over top spot with Club Halcones left as the team made to suffer the wrath of these teams.
The final game of the weekend came in group A, and as if to show a force of strength in their final group game, Alamo SC San Antonio trounced RGV Grandes 8-0 at the Alamo Sports Plex, leaving Laredo all the pressure of the final match, knowing they need a victory to run out group winners.
Exciting couple of weeks ahead in the Mid South section of the Super 20's as they come to the pointy end of the league campaign.
