After last weeks loss to Arsenal, the title chase was wide open. Chelsea were closest to Alex Ferguson's team at the top and Arsenal had fought their way back into contention with last weeks victory.

But after this weekend's results, normal service was resumed after Arsenal's bottle seemed to break after losing out 3-1 to Stoke in the days early kick off, meanwhile the big match of the day that could have seen Chelsea draw level with Man United ended with an emphatic win for the 18 times champions.

Javier Hernandez took just 36 seconds to break the deadlock as he seized on a David Luiz error to net his 20th goal of the season.

Skipper Nemanja Vidic headed home a Ryan Giggs cross in the 23rd minute as United deservedly doubled their advantage although Chelsea pulled a goal back with a Frank Lampard 68th-minute header but a relieved Sir Alex Ferguson saw his side cling on for a priceless triumph.

The defending champions needed a win to leapfrog United on goal difference but Carlo Ancelotti's men are now six points behind with just two matches remaining.
