Inter Milan are considering a surprise swoop for Inverness Caledonian Thistle striker Adam Rooney.
Rooney has been one of the stars of the SPL season with 11 goals to his name already this season. His form was behind Caley Thistle's surge up the table though their progress has been curtailed by a run of five games without a win.
His form has sparked the interest of the Italian giants who are keen to take the 22-year-old on trial though the Scottish club are understandably reluctant to let their star man depart for a job interview in the middle of the season. ICT would prefer not to sell him at all but would not stand in the Irishman's way should a big club come calling.
Rooney's form is all the more surprising seeing as he was deemed not good enough for Stoke City as a teenager and spent spells on loan at football backwaters such as Yeovil, Chesterfield and Bury before moving to the SPL club, ironically after a successful trial. Inter's interest mirrors their purchase of another young Irishman when Robbie Keane went to the San Siro as a teenager for the princely sum of £13m.
