With Celtic in the midst of goalkeeping issues after transferring their #1 keeper Artur Boruc to Fiorentina shortly before the club left for their North American tour, Cervi got the opportunity in goal.
Sebastien Le Toux scored the game's only goal in the 23rd minute, and Philadelphia used a half each from their backup keepers Brad Knighton and Brian Perk for the shutout. "We understand that it’s a preseason game for them," Philadelphia assistant coach John Hackworth said. "They’re just brand new into their preseason.
For us, we’re in good form and we used it to test some of our younger players. We don’t take too much stock in it and say hey, we beat Celtic and we’re one of the top clubs. We used it and we got a result, we got a shutout, and that’s really important for us in this locker room, and now we move on."
Celtic now go to play Toronto and Manchester United.
